What are some facts about horses?

Today is going to be about horses. I learned a lot about them when I went to visit the family farm. I just had to learn more. When I was face to face with the horse, at first it seemed cautious, but when I showed the horse nothing but kindness, she was more willing to let me pet her.  I felt as if the horse was needing to know if I respected it or not. I'm not sure what it was that I felt, but that's what inspired me to begin my research to find out what more there was to learn about them.

Horses are one of those animals that bond really well with humans. They are wonderful should be appreciated and be respected by everyone.

They do very well ridding in shows and also do well in the country. To ride this beautiful majestic creature is one of the most fulfilling experiences to have.

Horse Tails

Even though there is still a lot to learn about a horse's tail, it is known to help rid of annoying bugs such as flies, other insects and is also used to warm up their rear end.
Being a horse, it's extremely important to have a full and uncut tail. Sadly enough, there are owners who do treat their horse's tail, and I mean in all sort of strange ways. Normally when a horse has thin hair on its tail, its owner will get its tail banged. A banged treatment is when the tail is cut in a square-shaped way at the bottom just to make it seem more full and thicker when people take a look at the tail. The dock of the tail is the top of the tail and it is this, where it joins the body. Those who go hunting with horses normally will treat this part of the tail by removing hair at the top and will braid the tail at the dock. Even in horse shows, horse's tails get treated. Their hair gets pulled out from the dock of the tail to give the appearance of what most people think to be better looking. Another way people set their horse's tail is by docking its tail by it only being a foot in length. In some places, doing this is considered to be cruel and is illegal.

Facial Markings

Horses have different markings on their faces that are noticeable, and if you know what you are looking for, you can tell the difference between the markings on their face or muzzle. A mark on a horse's high forehead that is white is called a star. It is between the eyes and it will normally look like a diamond shape. In the center of a horse's face could also have a white facial mark. This is called ablaze and it starts at the forehead and it stretches towards the horse's muzzle. A snip is known to be a white mark on the horse's muzzle and a bald face is known to be a white facial mark that will cover most of the horse's face. Another mark is called a race, and this is known to be a curvy and long facial mark. A horse with a long, straight narrow mark is called a stripe.

 

Information on horses

Worldwide, about 75,000,0000 horses are in the world and not even 2 horses will be identical. If a horse is called a foal, it is because it is a newborn and a fun fact to know is they normally are born at night. A horse has about 205 bones and its

knees are almost the same as our wrists. The stifle of a horse is equal to a human's knee. Another thing to know about a horse is its heart weighing 9 pounds. Baby horse's which are called foals have milk teeth that stay until the horse is at the age of 3-5. A horse will normally sleep about 2-3 hours a day and will only lie down for about 43 minutes a day. Something that I didn't know was that horses don't like the smell of pigs. When horses are under the age of 3, a boy horse would be called a colt, and a girl horse will be called a filly. Once a horse becomes to the age of 1, it now can be called a yearling.
